Shakshuka the national dish of Israel

The delicacy from the Middle East has finally made it to our plates! Shakshuka is considered a national dish in Israel for a reason: whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner the recipe of tomato and pepper sauce with sunken eggs keeps you full for a long time, is healthy and is super quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 red pepper
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can of tomatoes (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika sweet
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • salt and pepper
  • pinch of sugar
  • 3 sprigs of parsley
  • Optional: 70 g feta

Preparation:

  • Peel and finely chop onions and garlic. Cut the bell pepper into small pieces.
  • Heat the oil in a pan and saut the chopped onions, garlic and paprika for about 5 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer everything together over low to medium heat and stir occasionally.
  • Season the tomato and pepper sauce. Then form 3 small hollows in the mixture and slide in a cracked egg.
  • With the lid on, simmer for about 5 minutes until the eggs are still slightly runny on the inside.
  • Sprinkle with parsley and feta (optional) before serving.
